HP Deskjet 1510 All-in-One Printer series Review - Free Download Driver
An all-in-one printer for less than 30? It can not be any good, surely?

It is not the equivalent of a #200, all-singing small business device, but for a home user - or pupil - with occasional printing demands it could be all that's required.

HP Deskjet 1510 -- Layout and Characteristics

The HP Deskjet 1510 is a small, neat, white device - very discreet when not in use. In contrast to the remainder of the body, the tray is black, requiring pages from A4 down to 15 x 10cm.

The front part of the machine is significantly undercut and front panel folds down to become an output , using an extension swivelling from the front edge to fully support pages. Though there had come criticism about the HP merchandise page indicating pages fly the very front of this tray, we wonder whether the customer hadn't discovered the expansion, since the printer looked very well-behaved through testing.

The control panel uses four membrane switches to control electricity, black and white colour prints and also for job-cancel functions. Twin LEDs indicate low ink in the cartridges, which slide in from the front. The capsules sit behind a dark cap, which can be shown when you pull the paper output tray.

At the back of the device you'll come across sockets to the external power source and also for a USB cable, which is the sole data link supplied. There's no cable in the box, so you will have to bring this to a purchase.

Software is essential, however you do get HP Scan and Catch, which includes OCR program. There is no network link over the DeskJet 1510, therefore attributes such as ePrint and Instant Ink are not offered. Software installation is straightforward and the supplied driver offers good support for the machine's functions, such as presets for all common purposes, such as text and photo prints.

HP makes modest claims for the operation of the DeskJet 1510, with 7ppm for both mono prints and 4ppm for colour. Our five-page black text print returned 5.2ppm, which rose to 6.7ppm around the 20-page record and 8.8ppm in draft mode, so up to spec.

Our color test piece did not fare well, with only 2ppm on the five-page black text and colour images pages. Again, a lengthier document might have come nearer to HP's claims. A single-page copy from the flatbed shot a respectable 43 minutes and also a 15 x 10cm photograph on glossy paper in best quality took 1 minutes 7 secs.

HP Deskjet 1510 -- Print Quality and Costs

Print quality for such an inexpensive machine is fair, with dense text. However, some feathering of characters, particularly in emboldened subheadings, is evident. Colour images are vivid and reveal small patchiness, and there is very good enrollment of black text over solid colour.

A color copy showed a few lightning of colours, although for general use it'd be fine. Colours were accurately reproduced in a 15 x 10cm photo, with sleek color gradations and lots of darker-shade detail. We did notice a small scuffing from the picture, which has been brought on from the rollers because the paper feeds .

Though the printer is pretty quiet during operation, as with many versions, the paper feed is comparatively loud - it measured 66dBA at 0.5m in our tests.

HP offers two versions of this black and white tri-colour cartridges for this printer. Utilizing the XL versions, which yield greater economy, page costs are 3.8p for a black printing and 9.2p for color. Neither of those costs is especially impressive but, given the reduced asking price for your printer , they're to be anticipated. Interestingly, the color price is nonetheless little over half that of the #275 Dell E525w, that has a colour cost of 17.8p.

Can I buy an HP Deskjet 1510?

If your budget is tight and you're printing needs are small, this is an fantastic selection of printer. There aren't many, if any competitor models that could accommodate the sub-#30 price, together with the Canon PIXMA MX495 costing a complete #15 more and Epson selling nothing for under #69.

It would be a hard fighter that couldn't recommend this printer in the Cost. Additionally, it may not have the printing quality of its more expensive HP Cousins, but we're discussing differences that lots of daily users won't notice. It is print rate may also be higher, but for short files And photographs it is still fairly nippy.
