HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 All-in-One Printer series - Free Download Driver
On the lookout for an ordinary printer for home or a small office? This HP all-in-one may be exactly what you want.
HP's OfficeJet Pro 6960 is a midsize color inkjet all-in-one printer that is built for home and compact offices. It's reasonably well appointed, with automatic double-sided (duplex) printing, scanning, copying and faxing, and both wired and wireless networking. The only obvious omission is a USB host port for walk-up printing or scanning.
Design and user controls
The design is typical of the most recent generation of HP printers: all swoops and curved surfaces, along with a colour touchscreen replaces the clutter of traditional buttons. It is quite nice, however it is not ideal: the yards of sombre black vinyl won't be to everybody's taste, and it's annoying the 250-sheet paper input tray is captive from the base.
This can frequently make loading and unloading paper jelqing, and it surely was : it's tricky to push 6x4in photo paper far enough and nearly impossible to catch its front border to extract it . Everything works well, however; especially the touchscreen, that supports drag and tap gestures.
Printing, copying and scanning performance
Printing speeds are fast across the board. The OfficeJet Pro 6960 finished our 25-page mono text test at a rate of 15.6 pages per minute (ppm) and also our complex colour graphics evaluation at 4.7ppm. In draft mode, it attained 18.5ppm on text, as well as the grade was still quite acceptable. Photo printing was slower, however: using the Max DPI mode switched on, borderless postcard-sized photographs took about 90 seconds each.
We've seen recent HP all-in-ones with slow automatic document feeders (ADFs). This one was fast for mono copies, helping send ten pages in 80 minutes, however in colour exactly the same task took almost 3 minutes.
The scanner itself may not be assisting: even over a USB link it needed 76 minutes to replicate a 6 x 4in photo at 600 dots per inch (dpi), and a took a dull 4mins 40secs to scan the identical photograph at 1,200dpi. We are no fans of HP's oversimplified TWAIN scanning port, either, and our evaluation photograph scans appeared to have been digitally sharpened, which left them look unnatural.
HP's ink cartridges discuss comparable packaging and design to individuals of Canon's PIXMA range, which suggests there might be a few shared technology. Unfortunately, they also share the absence of physical keying that could keep you inserting the wrong color in the incorrect slot -- care might be needed here.
You are able to buy'first' or'high yield' XL substitute capsules, together with the latter rated at 825 webpages for each of the three colours (which cost $31 each) and 1,500 pages to get black ($77). So its running costs are quite reasonable for a little office printer, especially in case you apply the high-yield cartridges.
The HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 has great features, a great design and the printing quality is great. Its scanner is slow, yet, and HP's annoying application does not help get the best out of it.
The OfficeJet Pro 6960's suggested cost is $229 but we have seen it selling for less than $150, which is very great price. It is rather cheap to run, also, which makes a fantastic pick for everyday office work.
