We've seen portable printers and cellular scanners but according to HP, the Officejet 150 Mobile All-in-One is the world's first mobile all-in-one device, permitting you to print, scan and photocopy about the move.
It may be of genuine interest to business travelers who invest a good deal of time in hotels, away from the business laser printer or even their residence office all-around inkjet printer.
The HP Officejet 150 Mobile may be powered by the mains power or using a furnished rechargeable lithium battery that's good for around 500 prints.
It connects to your Mac or PC over USB or Bluetooth, but should you decide on the wireless protocol, then it is possible to only publish - scanning isn't only possible to your USB connection.
There's no support for either Ethernet or Wi-Fi networking, and thus don't anticipate features that rely upon a network or internet connection like google Cloud Printing or AirPrint.
The paper feeder - which doubles as the lid when the printer is not in use - will hold up to 50 sheets, but you have to nourish your pages at a time into the scanner. Since it is a sheet-feed instead of flatbed scanner, it's not much use for scanning magazines or books unless you are prepared to destroy the first.
It's not to be dismissed lightly as a monetary investment . With a complete cost of 269/US$399.99/AU$449 it is much more expensive than many multi-function inkjet printers.
A normal black ink cartridge costs #20.99/US$25.99/ / AU$31 and the tri-colour capsule is #22.99/US$31.99/AU$40.99. Again, this can be much more than you'd pay for a normal inkjet multi-function printer.
Given its running costs and its own absence of network connectivity, the HP Officejet 150 Mobile is best employed as an additional printer to use on the transfer rather than a main, at-home apparatus you might also take away with you.
As a printer, the most Officejet 150 Mobile puts into a performance that belies its modest size. It certainly makes few compromises in quality. Text printing, the center of an Officejet's remit, is very clear and vibrant. Perhaps it's not quite as sharp as a desktop Officejet, however the difference is negligible.
It printed our 20-page text file in just under four minutes. Again, a desktop HP Officejet is likely to prove quicker, but to get a mobile printer, it's a decent rate.
HP's promise of'lab quality' picture prints is somewhat too optimistic. The colours are somewhat artificial and can do with being a bit more vibrant. Colour ramps are sleek, if slightly speckled, and also details are well realised.
It takes just 6 minutes 40 seconds to print, which isn't great, but you wouldn't really anticipate a portable Officejet printer to deliver speedy high-quality photograph printing.
Given the character of the printer, you're a lot more likely to use it for plain paper files than quality picture printouts. Thankfully, it puts in a good performance here too. Publishing a text and picture data sheet, colors were strong, text clear and images well replicated. There was very little banding also, which is something which often curses lower inkjet printers.
However, it wasn't perfect. The colours were somewhat too robust and images a trifle speckled in places, but you would not be embarrassed to hand it out at a meeting. Just don't expect the same quality you get from the printer printer.
Plain paper, default-quality photo prints are not as strong, since speckling becomes far more obvious.
You can't scan a Bluetooth link, either.
Pictures are able to seem speckled, although blacks are strong and white space blemish-free. It is a sheet feed scannerso you can not scan anything thicker than heavy paper, but in our tests it's managed a glossy magazine cover OK.
The bottom of a webpage may get stretched too, and it can be problematic in the event the image goes all of the way to the foot of this newspaper. It surely can't replace your useful flatbed for serious scanning.
Photocopies are amazingly good, lacking a lot of this speckling that influenced image scans. There were a number of horizontal imperfections caused by an inconsistent feed, but complete, they had been good.
Something which certainly can not be faulted is the printer's build quality. It's an incredible piece of technology, cramming so much into such a small part of kit without anything looking labeled on.
At last, you can choose your multi-function apparatus on the street with your laptop computer. It's not quite light and portable enough to drop into your daily tote, but it also fits well in your suitcase.
